Hanamidori Cultural Center

Posted by Alfredo J. Martiz J. (Panama City, Panama) on 25 June 2007 in Architecture.

The Hanamidori Cultural Center is located in the Showa Memorial Park in Tachikawa, just 10 minutes of walking distance from Tachikawa station of JR Chuo line.
This building is a central facility of the Cultural Zone in Showa Kinen Park. The main concept of this building is ‘Parkitecture’, the mutual permeation of the building and landscape. The undulating roof is covered with a variety of green and connects with the hill in the park; it is supported by 15 cylinders of different sizes and their upper points provide enough soil for planting big trees on the rooftop garden. The interior of these cylinders is used for a variety of purposes, such as lecture hall, classroom, storage and office. The interior space under the garden roof is one big gallery for diverse exhibitions, workshops and can be fully opened toward the park by a vertical folding door.
