Owakudani (III)Posted by Alfredo J. Martiz J. (Panama City, Panama) on 8 January 2009 in Landscape & Rural. This is a popular tourist site for its scenic views, volcanic activity, and especially, Kuro-tamago (黒玉子, Kuro-tamago) — a local specialty of eggs hard-boiled in the hot springs that turn black in appearance and have a quite sulfuric smell. To the left of the scene you can see the hot springs where the eggs are boiled, and the small structure is where you can buy the eggs. As you can see many people gather to eat the eggs, observe the process of making them and enjoy the scenery, the smell is quite strong and unpleasant I have to admit.
