Childhood Memories

Posted by Alfredo J. Martiz J. (Panama City, Panama) on 2 November 2007 in Miscellaneous.

As I walked around Kitasenju, a sudden smell of incense reached my senses, curious of its provenance I decided to follow its invisible path. I was led into a small shrine, hidden between small houses and trees, a sacred place where time became imperceptible. I slowly approached the entrance, carefully observing details and trying to understand the strangeness of the imperceptibility of the rhythmic pattern of life. As I kept walking, a peaceful feeling started to grow inside of me, I found myself stopping, closing my eyes and then opening them as I moved to the left.
My attention was turned to this forsaken tricycle, motionless yet full of a dynamic of its own. It triggered memories of a distant time, scenes from my childhood.
I was transported to the time when my parents were teaching me how to ride a tricycle, the joy inside me while riding it for the first time, the gentle breeze caressing my face, the smile in the face of my parents, their tender hug after my accomplishment.
