Elders Fishing on a Park

Golden Week!, quite a nice moment to take a walk in a park in Tokyo. After walking there for a couple of minutes this particular moment caught my attention, it's usual to see groups of elderly japanese gathering to practice their fishing skills, something not often seen in other countries. While observing them a question came into my thoughts, are they really trying to catch a fish or the purpose of their meeting is to share memories, knowledge and feelings?
What they are doing remains a mistery for me.
